Dumb question for the day, what are the A numbers I see on the pdf files for some of the plans I see?

Sorry for the dumb question, a4 at least is a type of paper, I thought the answer was going to be some sort of esoteric thing which I'd not find on google...

It's not type of paper, but a size of paper in DIN format, like you have Legal and Letter format.
A0 size is 1sq meter in surface A1 is half size A0 A2 is half size A1 or 1/4 of a sq meter. A3 is half size A2 A4 is half size A3 etc...

The clever bit is that all the page sides are in the same ratio. If you cut an A4 in half it is the same ratio of side as before. So you can enlarge or reduce anything without changing its shape.
