G'Day all

I have recently received a gift of a Multiplex Merlin. Not really a plane I would of chosen as I am a beginner whos has only flown
indoors mainly and only Rudder/Elevator. Anyway I am stuck with the merlin. After reading the reviews I'm getting a bit concerned.
I intend to make it a powered version on a DX6i Tx/Rx and I have a few questions -

1. Can it be tamed down through applying expo & reducing the throws without losing stability (and avoiding the dreading tip stall death spirals)?

2.Has anyone added some dihedral to the wings and how?

3. Is this more a plane I should put away until a bit more experience is gained?

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Allan

Hope you've had a chance to fly your merlin/kinetic and enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Sad to see the hk version gone, mine has lived in the back of the car for some time, good luck!

A. Yes - give it lots of expo as it is quite lively. Never struck any tip-stall tendencies though. Mine just drops the nose and picks up speed again when it stalls. Get someone to test fly and trim it out for you first time up.

2.Has anyone added some dihedral to the wings and how?

A. It already has dihedral built into the wings. I know a couple of crazy NZ'ers who would see it as a challenge to chop the turned-up bits off the end of the wings just to make it go faster.

3. Is this more a plane I should put away until a bit more experience is gained?

A. Probably, as the thing goes a long way in a very short time after launch - it is quite zippy. They were calling it a glider at one stage - but I suppose you could say it can glide all the way down to the ground if you want. Never had it in a thermal yet to see if it qualifies as a glider.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Allan

That's my two bobs worth for you.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams.
