What is everyone using these days for transmitters?   I have an old blackwidow A/V unit and a bunch of other lawman units (from back when ebay was cool with spycams).

I'll have to dig them out and get something setup for FPV....

I made the CCD switch long ago.... I hate CMOS cameras.

I was just wondering as far as transmitters.  I'd like something around 5w so I didnt have to worry about fade.

I'm afraid you won't find anything over about 1/10 watt as higher power isn't legal to sell or use in the US and most, if not all parts of the world.
For example, I believe the max allowed in the UK is 10 miliwatts or .001 watt.
The only way you can use a higher power is if you're a licensed amateur radio operator, stay within the amateur band, and even then you'd have to build your own amplifier.

1km & small isn't an issue at all.
if you can, get 1.2GHz rather than 2.4GHz, more distance you get with lower frequency.

you dont need high power, twice the power isn't twice the distance, probably only a 1/10 more distane, you only need patch or directional antennas and an antenna tracking sistem that point the antenna to your plane,or a friend carefully doing that.

for example

2.4GHz 1W Lawmate VTx are available from RangeVideo. They cost US$85-100 for either of the two available variants.

Any of the 900MHz, 1.2GHz, 2.4GHz 500mW units will easily take you out to 1Km provided there is no interference (GSM on 900MHz in Europe and Asia, RC control on 2.4GHz, 1.2/1.3GHz reserved for aviation in US).
