Hello, have a good day, welcome to "Epoxy the world (almost)" episode 3!
After a little "accident" on the second fill-process with the black, steel-reinforced 2k epoxy I had to order another cartridge (almost $20, phew!). This time I made sure nothing disturbs me and there would be no accidents, resulting in pre-hardened cartridge. I also reworked the second fillings axle hangers, as they were not perfect. To protect the outlines from epoxy I used the cheapest crap available: painters tape which didn't glue on anything -except transparent tape- well and transparent tape to make the painters tape stick.
I also used two layers of transparent tape and cut holes to fill empty spaces in two parts, after they were filled I removed those two layers instantly and the epoxy flowed smoothly exact to the upper edge without dripping over. It is hard to see the "masking tape" as it is transparent.
Then the fun began - viva la revolution!
After the process (had no time to create pictures while filling, it would've hardened too quick):
Hard to see the filling epoxy: It's around the steel axle in 4 chambers which were hollow. Now it is reinforced. Those are not fully filled, as there will be a glide special compound with less stick than pure Teflon added to the top:
The filled two parts after removing the adhesive transparent tape:
More to come later!

Hi people,
I just modified the older picture links and uploaded them to HK directly. A friend of mine tells me that the pictures from page 1 & 2 don't work anymore now, but for me they display (and reload) fine, even after clearing cache and so on. So if you guys don't see the pictures on page 1 & 2, please tell me! I'll fix them with external link again, then.

Hello people,
yesterday and today I made some progress in filling two axle side arms with steel-reinforced 2K epoxyd for dampening and torsion resistance. This time with the "real black edition".
It was the hell of a work to protect the surrounding things with tape while still creating a fluid overlap. But after all, it worked out pretty fine. Everyone, who used 2K epoxyd in the past, knows the problems: to fill big holes (even as it is stated as "glue" and not as "filler", it works pretty fine as such) without alot of air bubbles and with a smooth surface can be a hassle.
More to come..! ![]() Edited by IceWolf - 27/Sep/2012 at 12:02am |

Hi there!
There are no new videos yet, I need to complete the new computer first and finish some tasks with the project. But if I make new videos, I'll post them!

Hello and good evening, ladies & gentlemen!
I've decided to test the steering basic prototype today and also did a quick stability check. This was the first time I stood on "Bəhēmôth", which I designed for myself, even as it is not even 40% complete right now. A great feeling and yes - it's incredible stable and nice (but still needs alot of refining and changes). I'll let the pictures talk:
All "steel"parts are V4A, rarely V2A or other stainless high quality parts (most of them non-magnetic, you know, as future superhero with my toys I need to be protected against "Magneto"-type villains. )
No, this ain't the real final deck, just the old one from BMW with the holes in the right places - perfect for testing!
It even stays in one piece!
Here you can see the nice steering mechanism, but for the full potential it still needs some optimizations:
By the way: I invite every reader to write his thoughts or questions down, I welcome constructive critic as well! ![]() Edited by IceWolf - 24/Sep/2012 at 4:48am |

Hello dear people & fellow Do-It-Yourself-Guys,
today I made some process - I cleaned the axle adapter bores, glued them under high pressure due to tight fitting (I guess 80-100 bar in the chamber) to the axle stumps of the hangers and lubricated them with Mike Sanders corrosion prevention fat (one of the best ones) slightly to protect them.
The adapters are made out of surface hardened and bronzened ETG 100 high strength & torsion resistance steel, which is able to rust, but not under my care.
The glue is an industry leading anaerobic high strength heat resistant "gap" glue, which fills the small wall between old axles and the adapters absolute tight. It is impossible to remove the adapters unless one heats them to 600°C+, but that's exactly what I want: quality & strength.
Here are some pictures of the process which took around three hours, because my perfectionism constraint kicked in.
The bolt nut is the "tool" to screw them on with high torque:
Some fat and all four prepared adapters:
First mounted adapter was a godlike feeling :
After cleaning the overamount of glue and lubricating them with some fat:
Now they have a massive 17 mm diameter axle with reliable strength and usable length instead of the 10 mm short axle stump. ![]() Edited by IceWolf - 27/Sep/2012 at 12:35am |
