ok ,
after the eventful maiden flight, I managed to crack the support for the landing gear so I decided to mix apoxy with abit of thinner so that i could pour apoxy on the landing gear support so that it would not brake in any futures hard landings. i covered the blind nuts with tap when applying the apoxy to that i dont get any glue on the blindnut. take care when applying the apoxy.

I used a sharp blade to cut away the covering so that I can apply d thin CA glue to cover the side that the Landing gear screws into with the blind nuts.

Thanks for the thread boostman, I just got the gear for mine yesterday. I decided to try the full sized "Power HD Metal Gear Servo 60g/12.2kg/.16sec"

For anyone thinking of using these they are a bit big requiring a larger chunk to be taken out where they mount to the wing. They also push against the covering a little on the inside of the wing if the mount plate is screwed down flush. Its not enough that is is likely to cause a tear but is noticeable.

Edit: sorry this is for aileron mountings only so far

thanks for the infor spitfire , I actually have those POwer HD 120MG servos laying around but i thought before I change the whole geometry of the servo holder. I will try out the Mi 6kg servos of the same size. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14828

if this doesnt work out I will be installing The Power HD 120MGs or the Trunigy 620

HXT 10kg Servo (metal gear) 55g / 10kg / .16sec
in a 30cc Sbach and find them very good .

Hi all, I'm up to the centre supports and like others they are 45mm too long for the top wing. Has anyone found any solutions other than cutting the cabanes down to size? Just that if you compare Boostoman's pics with the product page on HK it looks like HK has used the full size supports somehow. I actually prefer the look of Boostoman's lowered wing but worry about the stability.

The problem is that it would be very difficult to make the side supports longer, that why I opted to make the center supports shorter. regarding the stability, i dont know how much that will event the stability? that might of been the reason my maiden flight wasn't very successful but i think it was mainly more concerned with the size of servos I used. I'm waiting for the higher torque servos to come so I can fly it again and see how it flys.

Thanks BoostoMan, your right about the side supports I decided to just shorten like everyone else. My cabanes were also missing the second set of holes to fit the support struts.

Very nice post! I was just wondering if it was your UBEC causing the problems with the servos not supplying enough amps? Do you have a 4.8 or a 6V battery to plug straight into the receiver to see if it improves the torque of the servos?

Looking forward to your success.

Dmaan,
The servos are working at 6v but they dont have enough power to move both bothe alierons I willb doing another test flight with 6kg servos or the same size. I hope they will do. I dont want to redo the servo mounts for larger servos.

Boostoman,it isn't the volts, it's the Amps. Amps is power (torque), volts is just speed. The BECs, especially those $4 ones are notorious for not allowing enough Amps through to power higher torque servos(especially two running in parallel). I've run almost the same servo specs on a larger (120 glow) Bipe with an identical set up for years. A borrowed fully charged receiver pack will give your servos all the Amps they can take to find out if your problem is a $4 BEC or $60 of what looks like good, strong servos. If the specs are correct for your listed servos and the ailerons are moving freely, you should be fine on those servos. Don't do another flight test on the same BEC as no matter what servos you use, you will get the same performance on the same Amps. You should be able to feel the servo power/torque difference with your fingers, not on another test flight. My 2 cents anyway.

A final thought, Those CA hinges can be quite stiff (and don't last). Try pinned hinges all round on your next project.

Highest regards,
