Hey Boostoman, don't you think that a DLE20 is to much for this plane? My Extra with a DLE30 I did lot's of structural reinforcements with epoxi and carbon fiber and now is perfect, very strong. I'm thinking about gas engine because the E-version is much more expensive.

When my Pitts arrive I'll post some pics if you don't mine..

Best regards,

Rodrigo

you will need to just reinforce the firewall and the sides. and if you balance the props you will not get as much vibrations from the engine.

ok I have done alot of work on my plane during the last few days, I just didnt have a chance to post anything.

i got the bottom wing servo all sorted i used self taping screws on the horns supplied instead of drilling all the way through the wing. i prefer the clean look.

I glued in the horns for the bottom wings.

when I test fited the bottom and top wings to find the alignment for the top wing horn i realized that my kit didnt come with long control rods luckly I had some long control rods from HK. so my advise is to order these metal rods when you order the pitts kit.

metal pushrod link

after getting both control rods in i decided to test fit how both the wings would fit with the supports. well this is were i required to do alot of adjustments.
when installing the center support brackets and the side balsa supports i realized that the center supports were too long so i had to cut 55mm off the tops of the center support brackets so that the wing could fit. this lowers the top wing substantualy. after that i also had to shorten the small Aluminum tabs that were used to connect the side struts with the wings.

please take note on the instruction manual(p.9) the angle of the side struts when installing them.

after installing the elevator and rudder stab. I notice that there wasnt any slots at the bottom below the rudder stab for bottom hinges. so I installed another two hinges.

this would make the rudder more stable especialy during knife edges when there is alot of load on the rudder.

I started with setting up the landing gear. After inspection I realize that i would need to reinforce the landing gear wooden plate. this will help with those hard landings, I also put CA glue around the blind nuts so that they wouldnt pop out when i screw in the landing gear bolts.

for the wheel pants you require to do abit of work since they are not precut for wheel bolts to be installed. also i sugggest you also apoxy the supplyed pieces of balsa for strength

Ok, I have been busy with my build and i just finished the plane. and wow it was loads of fun.

Rudder:
I decided to install a larger servo for the rudder, so I installed theTurnigy 620 12kg so that i wouldnt have any problems with the rudder or the rear tail gear movment. I also used a large carbon fiber servo arm i had laying around her is the link to it.58mm Carbon fiber servo arm

Tail wheel:

I dont like using the type of tail wheels that cam with the kit, becuase if you knock the tail hard on a landing then all the stress goes into the rudder. I had a 26cc carbon fiber tail wheel so i decided to install it. is is more durable and it looks way better. (my openion)

I used three self taping screws and screwed the carbon fiber support onto the wooden block in the tail. another great landing gear that I use is Sullivan Tail Wheel Bracket kit (5-12lb)which is just as good.

motor mount:

Now I was really confused with the mounting of the motor box for the electric motor. and at what direction it should be. becuase the lines on the firewall is not very clear and of course the manual has the two lines the other way round.

the motor mount lines should be the same as the manual , this offsets the motor to the left (looking from the cocpit to nose)
and then with 2 deg right thrust the motor shaft will be in the center of the cowl.
I would check for that , and that you have 2deg down and 2deg right thrust.

I think who ever assembled the motor mount put it upside down and the lines are on the wrong side to attain the thrust angle.

Cheers
Patrick
