Dear All,

I've already placed an order for the YAK54 EPP 3D Air Plane Model (Unbreakable plane).
Ive this motor -Turnigy 28-26-azj 14A 1500Kv Brushless Outrunner & ordered Turnigy nano-tech 1000mah 3S 25~50C Lipo Pack -2 nos with TURNIGY Sentry 25amp Speed Controller. & I've GWS EP Propeller (DD-1060 254x152mm)- 6pcs & also APC style propeller 10x5-E -1 no.Got 4 nos of HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo.
Ive also a lipo charges
I've a 6 channel Futaba TX & Receiver,question is will this be ok or the right stuff for this 3d model.
Few question
1) will the motor suit this battery.
2) is the esc ok for this set up

Just a little back ground of mine-
I'm a nitro lover & I fly pattern plane-jupiter/cosmos -low winger -scanner but due to rains cant fly .Therefore I'm Interested in 3D fun fly.

I also cant see any files or build log for this model,any suggestion -your most welcome to help me

Hi Peter, I think your set-up looks pretty ok
It should 3D ok , but you might have to watch the weight a little ,You might also want to consider a slightly smaller prop to keep the amps down a little and let the motor rev easier. With the 10" X 5's probably being as big as you would want to go , it is a higher Kv Motor and as such will have quicker response with a 8 X 5 or 9 X 4.7 prop I would think .

Your set-up as you have listed should be ok , but I think you would be at the lower end of the planes capability .

I run a very similar Techone Sukhoi with a 2S 850mA pack , emax 2822 motor with 5gr servos
Weight is everything with these models , build it light !

Your radio should be fine HXT's are great servos and your ESC should be ok with the props you have ( just ) , but will easily handle it if you prop down a little to a 9" or 8"

The motor you've chosen is probably a little too fast (high kv) to be well suited to 3D, but based on stated thrust of up to 500 grams it certainly will have enough power for your Yak. According to other reviews, the motor is apparently ok with 3S batteries so that should be fine.

Your ESC will have no trouble keeping up with the motor, and your nano-tech battery is an excellent choice.

I would be going for a smaller propellor than the ones you've listed - 10x5 sounds too big and you risk overheating your motor. I'd be going for a 9x4 or 8x5 size to avoid damage. Maybe you can trim your 10x5 props to 8 inches diameter and re-balance?

You will need to be careful with weight when you're putting your plane together - ideally you should end up with about 350-400 grams when ready to fly, but the hardware listed above (battery, motor, ESC, 4 servos, propellor) weighs over 200 grams already.

Honestly I was frustrated with no reply reason being that the post man called up stating an big parcel is just arrived & I told to collect it tommorrow,Thanks for your expert guidance & I think Im a little on track.will further do some fine tunning as per your suggestion.

I was just worried about the motor which give below spec -Voltage: 6~9v
which is a concern whether the motor will not burn up as I'm going to use 3s batteries which is rated at 11.1 volt.

Prop: 8.5x5 or 7x4

I ve also order for SF E-Prop 9x4.7 / 229x119.5mm w/ Adapters which is still in back order because of Turnigy nano-tech 1600mah 3S 25~50C Lipo Pack,yes i also ordered this for the yak54 would it be ok -wt 143 gms
also ordered smaller props -APC style propeller 9x6-E,
as per your suggestion,will order for 8x 5 prop which one do you suggest GWS OR APC

In comparision to glow engines verse brushless motor -I find it difficult to understand how to understand motor rating with power & model no & what wt the motor could actually carry -some are aerodrive ,some are easy drive & some are sk .

I was concerned about that too, but some of the reviewers of that product say they are using 3S batteries without problems.

I have a similar Turnigy motor in a plane that's rated for up to 9V, but it has run on 3S batteries for 12 months now without any issues.

You're not the only one - the specifications can be rather confusing. I tend to look at the rated thrust and recommended propellor size to get an idea of the motor's performance.

Bear in mind there are 2 extremes in producing thrust:
1. Small, low-torque motor spinning small propellor very fast.
2. Large, high-torque motor spinning large propellor slowly.
And of course you can be anywhere in between. Small props (and ducted fans) are best suited to high speed, whereas large motors are better suited to large planes and 3D manoeuvers.

I think your plane is going to be realllly tail heavy as this model isn't really light. Unfortunately I didn't weigh it before putting it together (Too excited!!) Personally I went with a 3015-7 1000kv / 12x6APC & I've used TopFlight wood / 3s1800MH and it's still tail heavy slightly. Mine weighs 2.2lbs but i also reinforced the tail section because it twists so dang much at anything over 1/2 throttle.
The little Donkey ST motor... not sure which one... is pretty light and can run a 11x5.5 nicely for very good vertical and is only $6.   But it's a cheap motor.   Not going to last very long.
I would also try and possibly get MG servos because i've already stripped out the tail servos w/o crashing.   900's are ok but if you really want 3D you'll need to glue the servo arm extentions on and its a lot of work for those babies.

Can I get some advice on brushless size for my new plane. I want to purchase one of those NTM motors that are on sale, but not sure which one is best.

The plane is a small YAK-54 with a 40" wingspan, 36" fuse length and weighs 700gm.
