OH FULL!!! lol!!
linked Video: Just had a thought...I noticed that the first time it was powered up, the TX and FM unit did NOT initialize, but when you unplugged the heli power but NOT the TX power (kept the tx powered up), it initialized correctly with correct stick movement.... This leads me to believe that the RX is too slow to initialize, basically FM is looking for a signal from the RX but not getting one in time, so FM goes all freaky...just a thought I noticed when the gyro was plugged in it freaked out, i think that was because of the camera not being there, position mode needs the camera, balance does not. IF NOT: process of elimination.... Default your TX settings and follow the FM mandatory setup...dont worry about servo direction that can be done later...we just want basic servo operation, then you can go back and program...do this on the bench if you like. 1: Bind RX to TX (make sure that your not getting a brown out (brown out is when the RX looses comms with the TX even for a tiny bit..the led will blink to let you know)..other words check to see that you have a solid led on the RX after some stick inputs etc) 2: wire up the spektrum RX (plug FM wires into RX)dont worry about the blue or green wire, you can set that in the FM SOFTWARE (set gain, then set it to balance mode (dont worry about position mode and the camera))...you DONT have to set up the switching of modes in your TX, default any switch setting you may have played with. 3: plug FM camera and gyro into FM unit. 4: Now get 1 servo and plug it into the FM unit (try the other 2 servo inputs as well)..check the results, IF the servo behaves correctly (dont worry about direction)with stick input, and gyro movement....the unit is working correctly. 5: if FM is not working correctly, try a different RX that you know works If those test dont work, FM could be faulty....like i said i can't confirm anything cos i dont have a dx7. Ivan_B,
Thank you for taking the time and writing the thorough response. I will try your method to see if I can get the FM to initialize. I will do it this weekend and post my results. I thought of the RX issue as well, so I have a new RX on order from Hobbyking. I am trying an Orange RX. One thing I did try is to leave the aileron plug (black, red and white) from the FM to the RX. This is the one that powers the FM.. I first powered up the TX, powered up the RX, allow all binding to complete, then plug this in to power up the FM. Did not work :( Hopefully I will have good news later. David |

Hi Gents
I wonder if any one could help me. I too have installed a flymentor in a HK450 The swash works well and is very stable but I can not pin down the tail I have tried all gain settings all that happens is the wag gets tighter or looser there doen't seem to be a sweet spot. What I can't work out is that on the first flight it was rock solid the next day it had a wag. I don't want to uses an external gyro if I can help it. My set up is as follows. Reciever :- Orange TX :- DX6I ESC :- Hobbywing Guard 40A Motor :- Toward Pro 2417-7T Servos Cyclic MG90S Tail Hitec HSG5084MG Any help would be appreciated. |

Check all the bolts in the tail and also the linkages.
Loose bolts in the tail holder will cause wag. I dont mean the bolt that goes through the blade but the actual bolt that holds the tail grips to the hub .

The two things that I can think of is as Kanga mentioned the tail setup AND possibly the tail servo itself...looks as though the tail servo is a decent one. If it doesn't center well, this too will cause problems.
Try this...hold the tail servo linkage rod so it cant move the tail assy, grad hold of one of the tail blades and twist it, if there is a lot of slop, this could cause problems, it shouldn't twist at all. make sure your gyro is mounted correctly. |

Thanks guys
Checked again there is no play in the tail linkages. I suspect that it has something I'm not doing correctly in the tail gyro set up. I have tried adjusting the gain with the green wire connected and disconnected. Gyro set ups have always been a dark art as far as I am concerned, some times they setup no problem some times they just do not seem to come right. Do you know of any sites on you tube that show a step by step idiots guide for setting up the flymentor tail using a DX6I. |

What servo are you using for the tail. Dont use HTX900 as a tail servo they are too slow to use on a tail. I use one of these and its been on my heli for over 12 months now np just make sure you run it on 5v not 6v. The other thing is use a low gain , around 30 percent should be more than enough.

Hi Kanga
I'm using a Hitec HSG5084MG on the tail the specs are •Optimized for 400-450 class EP Helicopters •All Metal Gear (1st MP Gear) •Fastest Servo Hitec has ever made •Non-Programmable Digital Circuit Specifications Motor Type: 3 Pole Bearing Type: Top Ball Bearing Speed (4.8V/6.0V): 0.07 / 0.05 Torque oz./in. (4.8V/6.0V): 21 / 26 Torque kg./cm. (4.8V/6.0V): 1.5 / 1.9 Size in Inches: 1.14 x 0.51 x 1.18 Size in Millimeters: 28.96 x 12.95 x 29.97 Weight ounces: 0.76 Weight grams: 21.55 I have also tried with the gain from 10% to 90% all that changes is the speed of the wag. I will swap out the servo this weekend. It seems pointless as the servo has been working fine with a 401 gyro for the last 15 months. |

Still sounds to me like it is the tailrotor hub screws , there should be little or no play in this area. Even if the screws are loctited tight
the hub can be still loose. Also if you are using a training undercart somtimes this can cause bad wagging on spool up. Also Make sure the flymentor is well padded from vibration. use zeal tape if you can get it or use the align gyro tape. You can also use a couple of layers of a real soft double sided tape instead, as a last resort. gently open up the flymentor and place some thin foam inside " not styrofoam " to pad it as well , use the type of padding foam that the flymentor came packed in to pad it inside. My hk 450 pro tt using a flymentor still waggs a little on spool up for a sec or 2.. never have been able to get rid of it totally either. Edited by kanga - 25/Apr/2012 at 3:49pm |
