Hello everybody.
I searched the forum and not found. Currently I'm using the Flymentor in my helicopter HK500 and HK600, both are flying FLY-BARLESS stabilized only with Flymentor. The result achieved was much better than TURNIGY Vbar-600 if anyone has interest in the setup file, I can post here. Greetings |

Ivan-B,
I know this is a late post, hope you are still watching this thread. Your video is great, very clear and very informative. I am running into a problem initializing the Flymentor main module. I am building a Tarot 450 Pro V2. Everything is working without the Flymentor. All servos movements are right, swash plate leveled and pitch set. I am using a Spektrum AR6255 with the DX7s transmitter. I wired up the Flymentor according to the manual, and verified according your video. One difference is the plug location for the rudder gyro. The manual diagram shows the lowest slot while the table said slot 5. Your video is consistent with the table. When I power up, I get a blinking red light and no gyro response. It seems to blink in groups of 4 with a slightly longer duration between the groups. I tried reversing the plugs and other measures with no better result. I found another Youtube video asking for help which shows the same problem. In the video, when the person removed the gyro plug from the Flymentor main unit, it powers up with a green light with gyro response. Anyone encounter discussion about this? One question. Does the Flymentor rely on the gyro unit that came with it for swash plate balance as well? I've read elsewhere recommending using a separate tail hold gyro instead. Can I use the Flymentor main unit by itself for main blade balance, and use a different gyro for tail? Thank you very much. |

Dear Chedava,
I worked with a grate amount of gyro types and one of the best was the the flymentor unit, they really locks the tail. First lets try to fix your problem. Please, first verify the connector with the blue wire, you need to connect to a free channel in your radio, to select the flymentor mode. I use the channel 5 with a three position switch programmed with the values (0 position)0%, (1 position)50% and (2 position)100%. When you alter the switch the LED's blink with: solid RED, solid GREEN or RED and GREEN, thus indicating the flymentor status. (UNLOCKED, TAIL LOCKED, ALL LOCKED). The green wire must be connected too to a free channel for you adjust the gyro gain, in this case, i use a free channel linked to a variable potentiometer whith linear variation from 0% to 100% (adjusted with 57% gain). These are the two major problems with the setup with flymentor. HK500GT FLYBARLESS via FLYMENTOR Good luck, best regards. Marcelo Braga Edited by Shell - 19/Apr/2012 at 8:12am |

Thanks for your help Shell. My problem is more basic, I cannot initialize the Flymentor. Someone posted a video on YouTube with exactly the same.
If the gyro is plugged in to the Flymentor main unit, I get blinking red lights and no servo movement when I power up the heli. If the gyro is unplugged, I get flashing green light with full servo control, but no flymentor balancer. If I try to plug in the gyro at this point, the servos go crazy and jump around. Any idea what is going on? Thanks. |

Hey guys...mans its been a while.
With regards to the RX connections, my diagrams are based on the cheap orange receiver which is a clone of the proper specktrum RX. I would confirm the inputs if you haven't already, different models may be positioned differently. The other thing you need to setup in your radio is the ability to switch from position to balance mode (I cant help with the DX7 sorry, but im sure someone can)with the correct values associated to the switching positions...choose the wire that controls the mode switching along with your basic gyro switch on your TX dont worry about the gain, you can set that up in your software for FM and leave it...you may be putting it in a funny mode if not setup correctly ( I would look at that first)...If your stick movements are all correct, you should be on your way. The gyro that comes with FM is a 3 way gyro unlike the normal ones which are setup for Yaw (Tail only) correction. without the FM gyro you dont have the auto correction. when using an external gyro you MUST still have the FM gyro installed....to be honest...if your using FM, there's a good chance your LEARNING to fly using FM to give you some confidence, FM tail gyro is more than enough, you wont be doing 3D or any massive maneuvers, so the gyro will cope just fine. My suggestion is to start again from scratch in terms of the wiring / connections, then start programming..you shouldn't move on to the next step unless you sorted out the one your on. Man I hope that helps...its the radio gear that throws me off, i'm used to the dx6i :( Edited by Ivan_B - 19/Apr/2012 at 3:30pm |

Ivan_b,
Great to know you are still reading this. I followed the steps in your excellent video closely. But my main problem is at the very beginning, trying to get the Flymentor to initialize. I found this video on YouTube that shows the same problem I am having exactly. If you have time, please watch it all the way through. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3UTP2jCtdY With everything plugged in, I get 4 flashing red lights, no servo response. If I unplug the gyro module, I get flickering green light with fukk servo control. If I plug in the gyro after, the servos dance around like crazy. Is it defective? Thank you fou any help. David |
