Great suggestion Troels Thumbs Up
And it would eliminate the crappy stickers on this that they use for reinforcement , which turn me off it to no end LOL
I had a browse here and it seems 23 micron is available , would that be the "light" one you are referring to ?

Does anybody know how to cancel a bid on e-Bay?
I put in a bid for a “Cowboy Outfit” and it seems I’m only six minutes away from owning the Australian Labor Government !

I really enjoy my Turnigy "Rogue"...it's a discontinued kit...they still make an RTF version called the "Easy Fly":

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=17415
(would have to ditch the craptastic parts spec though^)

the airframes slightly bigger than an actual Multiplex EZ Glider....nice capable knockaround thermal machine. Here's mine (complete w/ "Oracal" trim line, and two fat Oracal stripes, one per wing, for when it's specked out.  I also ran a strip of 2" fibertape on 2/3 fuse bottom):

If I were to pick a "latest and greatest", I'd definitely go with the Phoenix as well...that is one sexy looking machine...

I bought a Phoenix from the USA whse and maidened it today.Flew well if a little power starved but with a good fresh 3300 3s pack I thought climb outs were acceptable for a plane that cost me less than a hundred bucks.

Thanks Ghost , would you say the 3300 was too heavy a pack regarding climb outs, as they recommend a 1300 to 1800?
Boysie , would welcome your thoughts when you do get her in the air , although the way the weather has been lately I might have bought one by the time you do lol

That is a very sexy unit there Budderino , I am feeling de lurve !
( P.S. nice sig .... ya douche LOL )

Ok,

I've maidened the Phoenix yesterday. All went uneventful.

It was pretty windy and as expected the bird performed very well; the set-up is the stock motor and stock ESC with 3S 5000 mAh power pack. Lot's of air time Smile

Important points to consider:

- Motor have no downthrust; it raises the head when power applied. Either some downthrust should be given or else you have to fly considering the fact.

- Sailplanes are way different than regular planes when it comes to turns. Some differential to ailerons seems to be a must but you probably can get by with relatively smaller throws: 8 - 12 mm. for the ailerons and 10 - 20 mm. for the rudder.

- Landings are very smooth, you don't really need flaps.

- One piece wing makes the structure pretty tough, I strongly suggest that owners of Phoenix at least join the wings permanently and support the joint by fiberglassing at the bottom.

So, in short fiberglassing the epo parts was a good decision after all. Suggestion from Troels on OraCal arrived a little late for me Cry

I'd say Phoenix is a great bird to fly.

Cem.

Hi Trumpy,

Yes, it is way heavier than the "advertised" weight. But the motor is powerful enough, and the lift of the airfoil is very good: no worries at all. In fact anything below 2200 mAh would kill the joy for me ... I like being sure that I have enough power ...

The stock motor seems to be the equal of Turnigy 2826. I wonder if that's true and hope Turnigy is more powerful. I have a replacement 2826 at hand and I will try it out soon - one last mod I plan.

Cem.
