Because it is like the full scale plane and has no dihedral
I mixed in some rudder with aileron, but
to fly it at its best be prepared to add more or take away some
with your left thumb.
Most smaller model cubs have lots of dihedral to help pilots of
limited abilities.
That's why scale cubs don't make good trainers.
I'm as happy as a very happy sandboy.

Hi Snappy,

can you translate that to mode 4?

One can land the Grasshopper L-4 very smoothly so that no nose over happens.
(Think the angle in the picture above is much too high!)

You can fly the Grasshopper for landing at very low speed with a little carrier gas (don't forget the carrier gas!!) and then fly it 2 inch above ground lifting the elevation smoothly until it settles down. (Release the elevation after it has settled down otherwise if your speed it too high, it can take off again!)

But although doing so, the hardness for the steel of the wheel axles wasn't high enough and my right wheel was bend slightly. Being back from the airfield I unscrewed the axle but but was not able to get it out for straightening it again. Finally I staightened it with the wheel installed, but I think medium term I have to replace both axles by "good old German steel".

Juergen

A minimal technical knowledge is required for this hobby; please ensure you know the differences between up and down.

Good points, Snappy!! I'll mix in some rudder too!!

Juergen, when it comes to wheel-axles I've been wondering about new ones, especially since I have the bigger (and wider) 6" wheels.. So what you said about the stock ones bending on rough surfaces has made up my mind! I'll definately make new ones now!

I mixed rudder and aileron too, because the Cub is than easier to fly.
With your last sentence i'm not agree. I find out that this Cub is verry friendly to fly and easy to land. After 40 years i'm a restarter with an Kyosho Calmato 40 Sports. A taildragger was new for me, but after reading some sides about this Cub and looked on youtube to the video's a did it myself and................ succesful.
I have 2 video's(MPEG4)about the start and landing, but i dont know how i have to put this on this forum.

To fly it in a scale manner you use rudder.
I flew a fullsize once and you also need plenty of rudder to keep the ball in the centre of the slip indicator (the smiling gauge in the centre)
