Last job of the day.
Attaching the ailerons. I decided as with the elevators to use pivot hinges this time,
Pivot & Round Hinge 4.5mm Diameter 67mm Long (10pcs) The servo is attached to this hatch and the covering film trimmed back, note the hatch is initially attached with two screws there are two more in the bits and pieces bag.
The doubler was not secured sufficently on this wing and I had to reglue it.
Here are the hatchs hardwood blocks attached. The the servos I used hextronic HXT5010 which I have always fount to be reliable. I took a nick off the back a block for the servo wire clear. The 45cm extensions are plenty to get reach the fuselage end of the wing.
The instructions say to use the control horns which have a mounting plate on the top of the aileron which I think looks terrible. So I used servo screws straight into the control horn, there is plenty of wood. Tip if you remove the screws and put some thin cyno into the hole and let it dry it makes the balsa as hard as plywood.
Job done with no unsightly bits on the top of aileron

Did some prep work on the cowl, as I hope to put the 120 fs in inverted I wanted to open up the holes at the front. The easiest way is to drill several holes and then finish off with a file. |

The other job I did today was to finish off the wings.
The fixings for the ends of the struts are brass fittings you have to remove the film and then drill a 6.1mm (I used a 6mm) hole and epoxy the fittings in. I used some long bolts I had with vaseline on the treads to stop the glue blocking the treads and they also help line up the fittings
The attachments for the mid point struts are plastic and only need the slot cleared out and glued in with 30 min epoxy

The aileron push rods were next, the fittings for the servo end are different to the ones shown in the instructions an to be honest are a bit bulky and I had to hack (arrgh) the servo cover to give me decent aileron arm movement. The horns and push rods were painted with Humbrol enamel No 1 which is a good match

A minimal technical knowledge is required for this hobby; please ensure you know the differences between up and down.

Trumpy!
Does anybody know how to cancel a bid on e-Bay? I put in a bid for a “Cowboy Outfit” and it seems I’m only six minutes away from owning the Australian Labor Government ! |
