Did anyone get photos of the steam train. (Yet another hobby of mine.)
The MAAA can end aero-modelling apartheid Today! They think you're stupid and won't notice MOP057

D!CK SMITH / HOXTON / D I C K
Thanks Trumpy, I get it all make sense now. What state (I presume NSW?) and suburb/town is the field at? EDIT: Never mind just googled Bowylie and there are a few hits, so I'm gunna have read after pasting this in...

'Mr D.Smith' was actually taught to fly helicopters by our family friend Laurie McIver he was my flying instructor and Owner/CFI of McIver Aviation at Hoxton Park Aerodrome, which was
closed down about 5 years ago due housing development. I hate it when people build/move into new houses which they know is under a flight path/circuit area then complain about it.

But Laurie was killed about 8 years ago on Richmond Rd while taking a DC-3 engine stand back to Richmond RAAF Base, he got hit by an out of control Semi on South Bridge, he had nowhere to go and got hit head on. I might have been in the Bedford Flat top truck with him that day except I never went to the flying field that day, which I kinda feel guilty because things/timing might have turned different had I been there, though on the otherhand I could have killed too, so how do you weigh it up? His wife kept the school open and it's now based at Bankstown.

I've got 250 hours (URPL) (+ about 50hrs unlogged. Shhh - no one has been unplugging
tachos) and had done most of commercial exams but mostly gave it up when he was killed plus it was getting too expensive flying twins. Now I only fly an hour or two at most a
month in 172 or Arrow a to stay current, but my health/cancer does not helps things which
means I have to have a medical every six months.

Lauire used to fly his Bell Jet Ranger (VH-AGL) and actually any aircraft like no else
could, the guy simply became part of the machine, it was amazing to behold (just ask Mr
Smith), he would fly the heli from his home (or HOX) to our flying field 'UMAC' at Colyton
with his family and land between trees with clearances of just a few feet around all round
the blades. Though he said and was not as good at flying R/C Helis as the real thing, I've
only done a 1hr TIF in a heli (R22) and I tend to agree that the models can be harder to fly
than the real thing or were 10 years ago.

We hate that he was killed in such a thing as a road accident, I would have thought he would have preferred to go out in an aircraft crash, but with his skills I guess that would have never happened!

Mr Smith was part of the group of helis that did missing aircraft fly past at the wake, but
was not a pilot-in-command as he does not have a formation endorsement believe it or not!

RIP Laurie, I will never forget you and what you taught me.

B!

PS: A MOD/ADMIN should get to editing the profanity filter that are clearly not classic
'four' letter words'
I've noticed there are quite a few words that are banned that were proberly just in basic
Web Wiz default setup.

I love it when you tell me stories Granpa Thumbs Up Big smile
Funny thing about "what ifs" they can live with you long long after the actual thing occured .
Sadly legends such as your friend Laurie are getting harder and harder to find these days, thanks to the babysitting of various authorities nowadays,Disapprove
Have you considered writing a book Billy Boy ?
I would read it Clap

Trumpy!
Does anybody know how to cancel a bid on e-Bay?

Well said, Bill.  It is sad to see even Aviation go this way, the real old world charm that a mix of mechanical ingenuity and pilot skills can bring on is now disappearing in the face of regulations and bureaucracy.  Somehow my dreams of living in a hangar, flying and working on airplanes with a landing strip (not brazilian!) nearby, died after I got worked to the bone in this city.  My only respite is that where I'm currently residing, I have a huge outdoor patio and I can actually hear the airplanes fly over at lower altitudes, turbo props, singles, twins, even that turbocharged 520 Continental in that V35 Bonanza that flies over every once in a while... At night-time you can look west and see all the airliners stacked in a string of lights, on their way to land at the airport on the other side of town.

On the other hand, Australia looks like an awesome place for an RC freak or am I mistaken?
The universe does not owe you a sense of hope...
