The 7805 will get hot -- which is why it's silly to run these things with a lipo. With a 12V battery it has to drop 7V which, even at just 100mA, is 700mW of heat.

Be careful in using a router one - some are co-linear. They're sold to increase range as every segment adds 3 dB to the ERP (effective radiated power) and are probably illegal to use (there is a maximum ERP limit on 2.4 GHz as we are only secondary users on this band and any interference with primary users will get a very fast visit from the local radio authorities)

Not sure if I got it right.
Do I need to do any mod to use a 2S lipo with Turnigy 9X? |

If you also reflash the software to the ER9X version then no hardware mod is required to use the 9X with a 2S lipo.
Otherwise, you'll need to fit a small resistor so that the low-voltage alarm doesn't sound continuously -- only when the 2S lipo *is* getting low. |

Can a smartie board be shared to program more than one 9X or will I have to buy multiple boards?

It can be (it's held on with four screws and standoff pillars with 'points' touching the main board (no soldering) but there are standalone solutions available. Once the board is flashed, then the ER9X firmware 'takes over'. However, the backlight is powered by the Smartieparts board so it will cease to function after removal (unless you already have one in).
One other point - as the ER9X firmware is updated fairly regularly, you'd have to replace the board each time you update |
