Hi,
I received my Phoenix 2000 a few days ago and I found that the wing tips are a bit flimsy for a clumsy guy like me. So I fibreglassed the foam parts. I've used ultra-light fibreglass cloth. My question is; I think the whole process have added about 300 grams to the overall weight, do you think this would have a negative effect the on the flight characteristics? Thanks for the answers, Cem. |

Properly will have an effect on the hang-time, but hey you add extra weight when you fly in strong winds. And it will tend to fly a bit faster than if it weighed less.
-but 300g. extra on a 2Meter glider should not make it un-flyable. have a blast. how did you kill the wing tips ? -Troels |

Troels hi,
Thanks for the answer! Original one feels strong enough but do you think I should switch to a sligthly larger motor? How I kill the wings really differ: last time I had a mid air collision with a road sign during an emergency landing. That's why I fiberglassed the 2000 before even I attempted to fly ![]() Cem. |

just read some of the Reviews of it, here.
As far as i can make out, it seems if you want to upgrade to a bigger power system, then you have to reinforce the mounts and so on. -That tells me it should have enough power for the 300g. extra weight, BUT it depends on what you want to do with it, is it a; GLIDER (with help) or MOTOR GLIDER or a HOTLINER. My nature is for the Gliders (passion 1:1) without motors, BUT sometimes i would be nice to be able to climb slowly, or get home with the help of a motor. there is just something to having flown over an hour, on pure will and skill and rising air. MID AIR collision with a road sign, - hmmm, and Turkey -you should be able to find a flying spot without roadsigns. Roadsigns do smash fiberglass, but you might make a dent in it to show off ![]() -Troels |

Hi Troels,
You're right, I should keep away from the roads - with signs that is! ![]() Well, we actually have some great flying fields but sometimes I get a bit lazy to drive. Anyways, powerless gliders are fun, but like you say; they require skill which I don't have - at the moment at least. So I will try it with stock motor to start with and I will order a few stronger motors just to be on the safe side. From what I've seen on youtube, Phoenix 2000 can be quite agile; I might need that extra power after all. I'll try to figure out a way to reinforce the mounts ... Thanks for all your help. Cem. |

I am curious. How did it add 300g? That seems like allot for a small bit of glass. Did you use Epoxy? 2oz cloth?

Hi beladog,
I have used 48 g/m2 cloth with epoxy. Mine was just a rough estimate; I have used about 1 m2 cloth and 250 grams of epoxy. Some of the epoxy is sanded away so the total added should be about 200 - 250 grams now. On the other hand I'll use 2200 battery instead of suggested 1800, so this will add some more weight too ... and ... I plan to use a larger motor (probably a 28x26) and this means even more weight. At the end of the day I think I'll end up with about 350 grams extra. Cem. |
