Hey all...

I'm looking at converting my GeeBee R2 to EP and am looking for a second set of eyes on the project.

Specs:
  • Wing span: 60 inch
  • Fuselage dia. 12 inch
  • Weight 6 1/2 pounds
  • Wing loading:  25 to 30 oz./sq. foot
I'm guessing the weight will be more towards 7 1/2 or a bit more due to my building and with the extra weight of a conversion.  It's got a Saito .91 on it, so I'm looking for that kind of power or even a bit more.

I was looking at the TGY AerodriveXp SK Series 42-60 500Kv / 1475W http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7871

to power the plane, but not sure if I'm correct in this pick or not.

Thanks for the time,

Scott

a general rule of thumb is 150W per pound (for sport flying) so this motor would fit this  category:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7069&Product_Name=TGY_AerodriveXp_SK_Series_42-50_650Kv_/_1150w

The one you picked would put you at almost 200W per pound and would make you ballistic, provided you have the ground clearance to run the prop that would take that motor to 1400W (by the way personally I would use this motor, I like to have the extra power when needed for emergency's).  By the way always use a Watt meter to check your system. Thumbs Up

i managed to get that motor inside a larger glider/hotliner fuse, and flying with a 14x12 prop and 6s. big and cheap funĀ Big smile

check with a motor-calculator what prop to use and how many cells (depending on what you have around)

Thanks for the replies guys!!!

I going to install this guy and with 200W per lb.....should make it a real screamer, albeit a bit heavier.

And yes....a watt meter is always used to fine tune the system!!!

Thanks for the replies!!!
