Installed OS 10 two stroke on this plane. Will post video soon. :)
 Edward 1 points
OS 10 LA was too weak. Placed a OS 20 engine and it flies at 1/4 throttle. It needed a little trimming but aside from that it flew awesome. Very happy all in all. BTW, landing gear needs reinforcement.

Hello, I live in Brazil and the HobbyKing have this model EDGE 540 EP in wearehouse here in Brazil. So, Why I need to pay $58,50 by China post? Thank you.
slagbag  8 points - 3/26/2013

is a 35 30 1400kvoutrunner motor ok for this plane?
XStarWake  5 points - 11/20/2012

Will a omega72g and Hacker40A and 3S 2200 lipo, and 12x6 prop be good for that plane??
 Todd 14 points
The omega motor is awesome! Will fly anyting from this size up to 900 grams with 3D capability. I use a 115.5 e prop and 3s 1300 mah. 40 amp esc is also perfect.
psguardian  33 points - 10/14/2012

What are the root & tip chord measurements? Thanks.

Hello

I bought this plane. It's prety nice. The manual do not explain how to setep the rear wheel. Can someone explain that to me or put a photo?

thanks

 Dan O. 402 points
The rear wheel should simply screw in with some screws and you drill a hole in the rudder to have it stay in.
 GeeBeeY 55 points
You can even easily make a Steerable tail wheel by fixing a rod in the ruder and bent it as needed to make it so.
traumkumy  5 points - 7/25/2012

Hi, Looking to get this plane (once it will be back in stock in DE warhouse), but I'm completly lost for the propeler size to use* I plan to a NTM 3530, a 30A ESC and some 1800 3S I have in stock. Thanks for your help. :)
Haddad  5 points - 6/1/2012

oh and a 2200mah nanotech lipo.
 newbie guide 623 points
with 3530 this battery is a great combo and flying weight would be around 700~800 grams

Haddad  5 points - 6/1/2012

will this be alright with a sk3 3536 motor
 newbie guide 623 points
You can still have a great time with the 3530 1150 motor and get the power and response for 3d
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 Todd 14 points
In my opinion the 35 30 is lighter and uses less energy. A 1100 kv . With a 11 5 prop. The cherry wood prop at hk is cool with this. And a 30 amp esc. Run on 3s.
beezlebub  226 points - 4/24/2012

HMM, thinking about going monster on this one with a donkey st4010 820kv motor on a 12x7 prop. anyone got any thoughts? i am looking for more of a pattern style setup rather than a full 3d.
 Brain 110 points
if you are gong pattern then you do not need that motor, go smaller with higher kv and a 11x8 or 10x8 prop.
BEST ANSWER CREDIT AWARDED
 beezlebub 226 points
well, i already have that motor, and i am just looking for a plane to put it on. i was thinking that motor would not be so good for 3d because it is heavy.
 Brain 110 points
You could try but this is too powerfull for this plane, it may break it
 beezlebub 226 points
ok, thanks for the advice. probably gonna go with the "superlight" edge (this plane's bigger brother) instead.
 Brain 110 points
Which one?
Rcflyyer1  98 points - 4/23/2012

I have an ASP 12A and was wondering if that would work well on this model. Does the model hover also?
 Hans-Ole 6 points
As I search on the internet the ASP 12A is on 450 Watt and puls a 7x6 prop.
To my EDGE 540 I use the recommended KD A22-15M Brushless Outrunner Motor, a Turnegy 1800 mAh, 3 cells LiPo and a 9x6 prop pulling out around 250 watt and with this setup it hover!
So, sorry to say, but I think the ASP 12A is to powerfull.
storci  1 points - 7/25/2011

hi i would like do modification, the elektro engine want change with this glow engine ASP 09A :D do you think is it possible???
 Wingding 1 points
If you use 1 of those plastic engine mounts and are able to drill though the fire wall, reinforce with ply if not allredy then bolt through using a back plate on the inside (probably in the battery compartment) and that will need to accomadate a fuel tank. Use epoxy to glue all ply in. Not sure if nitro will eat foam body , do a little test on a sample first? Good luck
 Kellyann 16227 points
Stori I thing John ideas a good but this is not a foam plane. It is a ply and balsa. But I do know that the covering you not hold up to Oil and fuel. Sorry about that. I hope this helps
Hugo Marcelo  5 points - 6/29/2011

Hi, Please help me. Can I use this model with Glow Motor. If i can, wich i can use. Many thank's
 David 5 points
Yes but a motor mount will be required.
 Kellyann 16227 points
Hugo it would work well but I do know that the covering you not hold up to Oil and fuel. Sorry about that. I hope this helps

I want to get this airplane, but don't know what all I need to order. Will mini servos work or do I have to use micro. I already have some of both and radio equip. What is the best motor and esc combo for 3D? I have been flyiny for many years but new to electrics..... Can I place an order and it be filled when all items are in stock. Man I sure would like to talk to someone on the phone. Thanks Tommy
 Mike_S 13 points
About servos, I can recommend you classic hobby king servo - HXT900. I used them for this model and I have no complains. Fast, not heavy and very cheap.
 Lon 92 points
28 36 1200-1400kv motor w/30-40amp esc would be good for this craft if u ask me and i agree with Mike S. cause thos servos have excellent torque for 3d
Kirkles  115 points - 4/23/2011

please hobbyking get more edge 540's. The only ones you have are the kits and it would be more interesting if you had a plug-n-fly version
 F100CUFFLINK 887 points
comeing with in 4 months dud
 Mike_S 13 points
But this one is very good. I have one and it's fun.
Kirkles  115 points - 3/27/2011

Can someone please write up here EVERYTHING needed to get this thing flying that does not come with the kit i.e. prop etc.
 kk4vt 36 points
****
 Mike_S 13 points
I used a TowerPro 2408-21T motor, 18A ESC and 8x6 prop. Esc should have to be better eg. 25A. I'm flying with smaller battery 1500mah, and with this configuration it't a bit fast and easy to control.
 Kirkles 115 points
no i mean like every last little bit that you (the consumer) had to supply e.g. pushrods, clevis's, control horns etc. :)
 kk4vt 36 points
As I said, you need a motor, ESC, 4 servos, a receiver and a prop. Some CA is required and depending on your motor selection, some way to extend it out from the firewall. All of the hardware (control horns, hinges, push rods and linkages) is included, but the wheels are a little small for flying off of all but the shortest grass.
amiko92  7 points - 2/17/2011

how does it fly?
 justforfun 84 points
really nice. quick, but very flickable. lands quite fast. rolls quick, and knife edges really well
 capediablo83 8 points
I saw one of this at my field... it flies well but at the maiden so nervous... be generous with expo and\or dual rates!
 HellyFlyer 1249 points
It flyies awsome
 mrkokes 36 points
Flies ok but it's quite heavy. I had to use TR35-36-B and Turnigy ESC 40amp. KDA2220l was not enough.
 robert 6 points
flys well alittle twitchy when you try to pull full up for extreme manuvers not really a 3-D plane but still fun sport flyer NOT FOR BRGINNER THOUGH
 Mike_S 13 points
Flies and lands fast. Rolls really quick. It's true it's a little big heavy and because of this it't may be better to use smaller battery. I used 1500mah, and it works good.
AndreBr  5 points - 1/7/2011

Does it have a removible wing or we have to glue the wing? Does it is a 3D plane? Thanks.
 Peter 84 points
Wing is held on with hand turn screws and come off . Nice plane . With 2409 and 1000 4s will do anything you want .
 mrkokes 36 points
Removable wings. Held with 2 carbon tubes 2 screws. Easy to put together at filed. Flies nice 3D manuevers.

I'm looking for a suitable motor/esc for this plane. Can I just use the electronics from my parkzone typhoon and get reasonable power?
 mrkokes 36 points
Hi, I am using this motor TR35-36-B and Turnigy ESC 40amp. Prop 10x5 APC. I had KDA22-20L but it was not enough power.
Hermansjoerd  70 points - 3/12/2010

Hello I fly a axn floater but its time for something new! I really like this plane because of the power and 3D capabilities! But now my question: Is it wise for me to buy this baby after iam done with the AXN floater or is it very hard to fly?
 Jaroslav 14 points
Hi, for first fly with aerobatic plane like Extra I would recommend you to buy a foam one. The reactions on every movement are very fast and it is nonsense to put a low power engine to that. Buy a foam one and then this one. But extra is a good one...can recommend it :-)

can you give some ideas about the servos suitable for this plane. thx
 Ben-ya-min 35 points
the HXT 9 gm servos work well in this plane the fit the laser cut holes perfectly and the screw holes even line up for easy installation

92 thumbs up!

45 thumbs up!
A great little plane, have finally got it setup properly. there are three main issues with it:
The langing gear needs work when you buy this kit wheels need to be nice big ones for grass and you will need to have a look at how the gear attaches to the plane.
The control horns are wood and need to be replaced with some nice plastic ones, with metal control rods.
The motor mount is very weak. I have remade it with 5mm plywood(in the same design as original) and with thicker balsa supports and it works much nicer.

In terms of flying it is fantastic... My setups is:
TR 35-36B 1300kv Brushless
hexTronik PRO 80A BESC
4x HXT 9314MG 14.7g / 1.9kg / .12sec
APC style propeller 9x6-E
HXT D9 G2 2200mAh 3S 20-32C lipo

With that it's more than suitable for flying about, but for serious power i think that 4s is the way to head with this model. I'll post more details on a 4s setup when i test it.

30 thumbs up!
El avión es precioso y ha venido en perfecto estado.
* Lo vuelo con el kit towerpro BM2408-21T, ESC18A BEC y prop. 1047 y la verdad que con esta configuración vuela de maravilla y sube vertical!!!
* Le he puesto 4 servos HXT900 de 9g.
Lo que necesitareis también para completar el kit son 2 alargadores de servo de 30cm y uno de 15cm, las varillas de control de servos con prisioneros y aconsejable un kit de dirección de rueda trasera.

Espero que os sea de ayuda...

Received my Edge in mint condition, well packed by HC. Quakity looks very good, only needed some cover stretching on the stab. Not assembled yet.
I put all parts, incl landinggear and all small hardware, on the scale and it showed some 430grams.
The advertized weigth of 380g is main parts only, ie fuse, wings, stab, fin and cowling.
Still, I think it's possible to end up with a lightweight performer anyhow.
Will try the KDA2215M motor to begin with.
