EDGE540 EP A small yet quality built EDGE 540. Made from laser cut plywood and nicely finished. Comes complete with carbon fiber wing rods, proper landing struts, wheel pants and instructions. G2 (generation 2) Edge 540 comes with modfications such as stronger landing gear mounts and resized engine bay area. The kit still looks the same however the new G2 mods make it easier to build and stronger to fly. Spec: Wingspan: 914mm (36inch) Fuselage Length: 788mm (31inch) Model Weight: 380g
OS 10 LA was too weak. Placed a OS 20 engine and it flies at 1/4 throttle. It needed a little trimming but aside from that it flew awesome. Very happy all in all.
BTW, landing gear needs reinforcement.
Hello,
I live in Brazil and the HobbyKing have this model EDGE 540 EP in wearehouse here in Brazil.
So, Why I need to pay $58,50 by China post?
Thank you.
i've looked at there web site it says spare available i'm not shure if there talking about parts or stiker, check it out for your self at top model production
The omega motor is awesome! Will fly anyting from this size up to 900 grams with 3D capability. I use a 115.5 e prop and 3s 1300 mah. 40 amp esc is also perfect.
Hi,
Looking to get this plane (once it will be back in stock in DE warhouse), but I'm completly lost for the propeler size to use* I plan to a NTM 3530, a 30A ESC and some 1800 3S I have in stock. Thanks for your help. :)
In my opinion the 35 30 is lighter and uses less energy. A 1100 kv . With a 11 5 prop. The cherry wood prop at hk is cool with this. And a 30 amp esc. Run on 3s.
HMM, thinking about going monster on this one with a donkey st4010 820kv motor on a 12x7 prop. anyone got any thoughts? i am looking for more of a pattern style setup rather than a full 3d.
well, i already have that motor, and i am just looking for a plane to put it on. i was thinking that motor would not be so good for 3d because it is heavy.
As I search on the internet the ASP 12A is on 450 Watt and puls a 7x6 prop. To my EDGE 540 I use the recommended KD A22-15M Brushless Outrunner Motor, a Turnegy 1800 mAh, 3 cells LiPo and a 9x6 prop pulling out around 250 watt and with this setup it hover! So, sorry to say, but I think the ASP 12A is to powerfull.
If you use 1 of those plastic engine mounts and are able to
drill though the fire wall, reinforce with ply if not allredy then bolt through using a back plate on the inside (probably in the battery compartment) and that will need to accomadate a fuel tank. Use epoxy to glue all ply in. Not sure if nitro will eat foam body , do a little test on a sample first?
Good luck
Stori I thing John ideas a good but this is not a foam plane. It is a ply and balsa. But I do know that the covering you not hold up to Oil and fuel. Sorry about that. I hope this helps
I want to get this airplane, but don't know what all I need to order. Will mini servos work or do I have to use micro. I already have some of both and radio equip. What is the best motor and esc combo for 3D? I have been flyiny for many years but new to electrics..... Can I place an order and it be filled when all items are in stock. Man I sure would like to talk to someone on the phone. Thanks Tommy
About servos, I can recommend you classic hobby king servo - HXT900. I used them for this model and I have no complains. Fast, not heavy and very cheap.
28 36 1200-1400kv motor w/30-40amp esc would be good for this craft if u ask me and i agree with Mike S. cause thos servos have excellent torque for 3d
I used a TowerPro 2408-21T motor, 18A ESC and 8x6 prop. Esc should have to be better eg. 25A. I'm flying with smaller battery 1500mah, and with this configuration it't a bit fast and easy to control.
As I said, you need a motor, ESC, 4 servos, a receiver and a prop. Some CA is required and depending on your motor selection, some way to extend it out from the firewall. All of the hardware (control horns, hinges, push rods and linkages) is included, but the wheels are a little small for flying off of all but the shortest grass.
Flies and lands fast. Rolls really quick. It's true it's a little big heavy and because of this it't may be better to use smaller battery. I used 1500mah, and it works good.
Hello I fly a axn floater but its time for something new! I really like this plane because of the power and 3D capabilities! But now my question: Is it wise for me to buy this baby after iam done with the AXN floater or is it very hard to fly?
Hi, for first fly with aerobatic plane like Extra I would recommend you to buy a foam one. The reactions on every movement are very fast and it is nonsense to put a low power engine to that. Buy a foam one and then this one. But extra is a good one...can recommend it :-)
Will this battery fit in this plane?https://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewI tem.asp?idProduct=7228Pack Size: 113 x 34 x 25mm

92 thumbs up!

A great little plane, have finally got it setup properly. there are three main issues with it: The langing gear needs work when you buy this kit wheels need to be nice big ones for grass and you will need to have a look at how the gear attaches to the plane. The control horns are wood and need to be replaced with some nice plastic ones, with metal control rods. The motor mount is very weak. I have remade it with 5mm plywood(in the same design as original) and with thicker balsa supports and it works much nicer.
In terms of flying it is fantastic... My setups is: TR 35-36B 1300kv Brushless hexTronik PRO 80A BESC 4x HXT 9314MG 14.7g / 1.9kg / .12sec APC style propeller 9x6-E HXT D9 G2 2200mAh 3S 20-32C lipo
With that it's more than suitable for flying about, but for serious power i think that 4s is the way to head with this model. I'll post more details on a 4s setup when i test it.

30 thumbs up!

Received my Edge in mint condition, well packed by HC. Quakity looks very good, only needed some cover stretching on the stab. Not assembled yet. I put all parts, incl landinggear and all small hardware, on the scale and it showed some 430grams. The advertized weigth of 380g is main parts only, ie fuse, wings, stab, fin and cowling. Still, I think it's possible to end up with a lightweight performer anyhow. Will try the KDA2215M motor to begin with. /A
