I'm seeing that servos, and motors/ESC's are not working. So my question is, "How long have you had the plane before these problems pop up?" And how hard is it to order parts for them?
Seresalf  1 points - 3/26/2013

Hello, Do you know why could it happen that the props do not fold back when reducing the throttle and just gliding? Someone told me I need to change the ESC because the default* one is not good. Is that true? Thanks
 Jimmy 12 points
You can set most speed controls to brake when the throttle is off and it stops the motor. If the brake isn't programmed it is very simple to do it. If the prop doesn't stop it just causes more drag and reduces the flight time by a few minutes

One of the servos on my glider stopped working. The code on the servo is NE-R5515 but could not find it anywhere to buy a spare. Please help. Thanks!!
 bturby 50 points
Any 9gram servo should work as long as the extension is long enough

Tips on Skyclimber - I have about 6 months experience on the glider and would like to share the following: Rubber band your canopy. Magnets have a tendency to dislodge. Rewire your motor leads outside the frame and then back in where the battery is. Wires rub on the rotating motor and will eventually be eaten into. Design and add a skid plate to the bottom for hard landings. Foam is tough but not that tough. Paint strips (black) on bottom to help with the orientation when flying. Upgrade to a better ESC and transmitter. I paid the price by loosing electronic signal. Hope this helps. It is a great flyer. Ailerons help tremendously.

If there is anyone out there that needs a RIGHT wing for this glider, I have two for sale.....
 diy-pro 298 points
Hmmm you have any plans for a 1 wing stick that uses gravitoss to support the left side?
 MosyCott 261 points
Its a long story, but I needed one left wing for my Sky climber so ordered the replacement wing set from HK. When they arrived, they had sent two RIGHT wings, after months of waiting for HK to get it sorted out, I bought another set of wings and used the LEFT wing that I needed and now have three RIGHT wings leftover.... I will hang onto one and if anyone wants one of the other two, they can have them for FREE postage cost... :-)
 diy-pro 298 points
Good man thumbs up! No gravitoss thumbs down! And dam you HK!!!!!!!

I got this plane a couple of weeks back and now the motor just stopped working. Can anyone tell me which would be a good replacement? I am kind of new to this and not sure if http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem
.asp?idProduct=5690 would
be a good option. Would appreciate someone experienced confirming or advicing. Thanks.
 MosyCott 261 points
hey say that this motor is installed... Motor: 2835 1050kv Brushless Motor ... Have you searched the site for a replacement ...??
 diy-pro 298 points
The motor just stopped working or the esc? Make sure to check. With a stock prop and regular use the motor should be fine. I get on often and don't mind helping let us know!
cxgiaco  215 points - 6/6/2012

Does anyone have the internal dimensions for this? I am looking to do a combination autopilot/FPV setup, and am not sure if i will have enough space for the payloads. I wish you could buy this as a P&F or ARF... i don't need another Tx or Rx...
 Sunfishtom 9 points
Mine is roughly 2" wide, 5 1/4 long and 1 1/2 deep but there are small irregular pockets in front and behind this space.

 cxgiaco 215 points
Thanks Tom, I can cut out pockets and redo the internal structure, just need to make sure it is wide enough for the ardupilot.
 MosyCott 261 points
You can buy all the parts and build the whole thing quite cheaply, less than $100
70frankie  8 points - 6/6/2012

Can this glider be flown with just rudder and elevator? can the ailerons be locked in place?
 cxgiaco 215 points
Frankie, while it is technically possible, the lack of dihedral (wingtips up) and coupling that occurs due to the high aspect ratio of gliders, rudder-only control will probably not be a very good idea for this model.
 bturby 50 points
I would recommend switching the rudder and aileron channels so the ailerons are still available because sometimes you will probably need them.
 MosyCott 261 points
I would think that in calm conditions it would be possible, but if there was any kind of wind, the rudder would find it very difficult to make this big bird turn .... ?
 diy-pro 298 points
I just started flying and to keep it simple on my home made 50" foamie I use only ailerons and horizontal stabilizer like bturby said. But I may add a rudder today!!!

What is the length (front to back) of the wing? (Not tip to tip)
 Kellyann 16240 points
Hogwit it is 160mm (about 6 and 1/2 inches) . I hope this helps
BUDDY Z28  48 points - 5/5/2012

Hey guys, is the reciever a regular reciever? or is it all in one circuit board? can i use the radio and reciever for my other planes?
 ANDY in c.a.p 348 points
yes you can the rx is by itself
 Kellyann 16240 points
BUDDY Z28 yes you can pull the rc gear out of the plane and use it in another plane. BUT I do not know weather you can buy other receivers to bind with it. But the receiver is a stand alone. SO YES YES YES

Yes I am using a orange 6ch with sat and it works great. Nice to be able to use a computerized TX on this glider to really make it fly right?

what size of propeler I need for sky climber
 Alpercito 15 points
It is a 9.2 x 6 (folding prop) which is included, you could use a 9 x 6 or 10 x 6 but you could also buy the one that they have here in hk, here is the product code: NE401776001A, just look it up on the left, and if they don`t have stock, just google it, and you`ll find a lot of online sites where you can buy it!
 Sunfishtom 9 points
I've even used an 11X6 since others were not available when I need one.
702E-FLY-GUY  15 points - 3/17/2012

I JUST RECEIVED THIS AIRCRAFT, AND WHEN YOU SIGHT DOWN THE NOSE THE TAILPLANE (VERT. FIN AND STAB) LOOK TO BE SQUARE. THE FUNNY THING IS THE STAB IS NOT PARRALEL WITH THE WING. I THINK THE FUSE MAY BE TWISTED. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM
 Maximilionalpha 1099 points
Scotch tape will solve that problem.
 Alpercito 15 points
Hey man, don`t worry about it at all, I had a similar problem, twisted fuselage, wings weren`t parralel, I even had a broken tailwing. The fuselage is the easiest part, just twist in the direction you want it to be, and check it every time you twist it a bit! I also glued the tailwing, but I did that with CA, foamsafe glue! Now, you give you a headstart, down here you can see my maidenflight!! Don`t worry, be happy, because you will fly this bird!!
 Alpercito 15 points
By the way, the bird has flaps!!! How cool is that! And you can hear the wind, a lot of wind! But it didn`t bother it at all!!!
 Jason 8 points
Yeah, I've had this issue on other planes I have purchased. As long as there are no stress-cracks, you should be fine just twisting a bit.

THANKYOU ALPERCITO, AND JASON. THE VIDEO WAS COOL, AND THE WIND CONDITIONS WERE NO JOKE. I WILL GIVE THAT A TRY JASON. I WOULD NOT BE TOO CONCERNED, BUT IT IS BAD (OVER AN INCH). I GUESS I AM OLD SCHOOL EVERYTHING I USED TO FLY WAS FULLY BUIT UP, AND I BUILT THEM STRAIT. I AM NEW TO HOBBYKING, AND RETURNING TO THE HOBBY. SO MUCH TO LEARN WITH ALL THE ELECTRIC POSSIBILITIES.

can I use ca glue with this model?
 Maximilionalpha 1099 points
As long as it reads, "Foam Safe" on the label.
 skydvejam 24 points
I am assuming that the charger does not come with a power supply? Anyone have this and know if that is correct? By looking at the pictures it looks like it takes 12v with the clips.
 Maximilionalpha 1099 points
You're correct in assuming that. Car battery, or you supply your own 12V AC wall adapter.
 skydvejam 24 points
I take it Max that you have this bird, how many amps is this charger?
 Maximilionalpha 1099 points
I don't have it, yet, but I believe the amps are around about 8.7
 Jason 8 points
With this being such a large aircraft, would it work well for holding a GoPro HD camera?
 Maximilionalpha 1099 points
Yes it will.
 Alpercito 15 points
James, it is a 1.5 Amp charger, charges pretty quick, had it charged in like 1 hour and 10 minutes.
 Alpercito 15 points
www.link this is the link to the foamsafe ca David!!
 skyline_g35 131 points
With EPO foam, you can use straight CA. It does NOT need to be foam safe. All other foams regular CA will eat.
 ryan.perera22 384 points
skyline_g35 is right. DO NOT USE FOAM SAFE CA FOR EPO FOAM. use regular CA.
 702E-FLY-GUY 15 points
IT DOES NOT COME WITH AN A/C POWER SUPPLY. YOU NEED A D/C POWER SOURCE SUCH AS A CAR BATTERY. I USED THE SEALED 12 VOLT BATTERY OUT OF MY SONS ELECTRIC QUAD
 702E-FLY-GUY 15 points
ALPERCITO IS CORRECT 1.5 AMP.
 ryan.perera22 384 points
Car battery is definitely a good idea! Nice one 702E-FLY-GUY!!

The best glue to use with this plane is Epoxy. I wouldn't trust ca for a plane this size.

Great aircraft. Super windy on the maiden but great take off's and landings. Fly's great inside and outside loops, barrel rolls, and inverted flight. I think it is bit light for the winds I had today, 25-35 MPH winds makes it just stall and fall in this wind. Had one piece that was a little off, but it was an easy fix. The included balance charger does both 2 and 3 c's but and works perfectly off a 2.5a 12v power supply, not so good on a .5A though. Flys better than a Radian pro for a fraction of the price. There were a couple of small dings in the wings out of the box, but nothing that is a big deal. Flaps work great, although one servo is a little noisy, thinking I might just change them out, and planning on getting a Spektrum RX to swap out. Uses T connectors for the battery, I have not had the typical issue with the ESC.

My first 2 flights were scary because I only flew ailerons on sim. 3 and 4 were awesome. Flight 5 my thumb caught the left aileron wires and disconnected them. This ended in a crash snapping off the nose. I glued it back with Gorilla Glue and all electronics good. I recommend taping the loop of wires since they can't be tucked into the fuse. This plane and radio is everything I dreamed of in a glider. I love the radio. Everything comes set to go with a little trim. So.......o quiet! The flaps are cool. Now that I've initiated it with a crash I can enjoy flying it with no worries. It's going to be my favorite plane for years. PS when installing the tail screw work over a cloth in case you drop it. Hard to find in the grass. Had to use my metal detector to find it. Thanks so much HK

AMAZING QUALITY...I PUT IT TOGETHER, AND WHEN I GOT IT IN THE AIR IT REQUIRED NOT ONE CLICK OF TRIM ANYWHERE. THE TRANSMITTER IS OF BETTER QUALITY THEN MOST RTF AIRCRAFT. FLIGHT TIME IS FOR DAYS IF YOU CLIMB OUT THEN LOOK FOR A THERMAL THEN CLIMB OUT AGAIN. EASILY AN HOUR WITH 8 CLIMB OUTS. SLOWS UP WELL EVEN WITHOUT THE FLAPS.

You could enjoy this great looking plane, but that's assuming HK can actually get it to you. And in the event it takes them 4 months, they will charge you an additional $44 for their incompetence. Enjoy!

I love this glider. Thermals wonderfully, has a good climb out, can float or be rather fast. The bad, I have a twisted fuse, a few degrees that is very noticeable on take off and climb out, flies fine but it has to increase drag since I have to trim to make it fly right. I have done a lot of work though, I have replaced the stock motor with a Super Tigre .10 and a 30 Amp ESC, also placed a Orange RX with Sat. in it works wonderfully. Only hit is the fuse, and weak rudder, had the hinge break once, re-did with packing tape and all is good.
