I think you should start with 1520μ*S/250Hz (For the GA-250 this is 3 Red lights on Gyro Setup). This will work fine for all basic flying. I get too much tail wag at the default 70Hz (5 Red lights).
Its the rate which the servo receives signal. Higher/quicker response. Analogue up to 100hz,while digital are capable of much higher hence better performance and holding position. Usually the first figure (1520us) is the pulse width or type of frequency its designed for and the next is refresh rate( say 333hz for digital) at which it receives signal to move to or hold that position.Hope that wasn't too confusing, only had 2 beers.
This servo is actually only a 60 HZ servo , they work best If you set your gyro to the lowest setting you can , on the Ga-250 that is 70hz. Higher settings will work for a while but your servo may burnout early.
57 flights so far, at 333Hz and 6v on my HK 450 Pro FBL. I always let it cool down between flights - it gets up to 110f in 70f ambient. Given a choice, I'd run it at 250Hz, but my CX controller doesn't give me that option.
With CX-3x1000 ,if you're using DS on cyclic ,you're right. The option selection 1 *1520u-250hz is for Analogue servos for cyclic and Digital for tail set to 250hz. Higher equates better performance (quicker response, more precise )
After using these servos on the tail of 3 helis i thinks its safe to say Dont use them on anything more then 70hz ,on 250 or 333 they get to hot and Will fail! so you cant trust them unless there on a low setting but then they dont center well so there's always some wag so you must treat them for what they are,,,cheap . maybe it takes personal experience to believe that going cheap on the tail is never a good idea but it really is true!
I'm just not seeing that problem - I measure the temperature with an IR thermometer after every flight, and my 15158A is staying really cool, running at 6v 1520us 333Hz with a CX 3x1000 on my 450 Pro. There are many reasons why a tail servo might overheat - too much gain and binding in the linkage being the most common.
From varying results, seems like a QC issue. With some of the lower priced products, its like a lucky dip.Personally,I use decent servos on swash and tail. Heli is more precise and enjoyable. The reason for crashing is minimized and normally due to ridiculous maneuvers or pilot errors. Been using tgy306h for the last 6 months and very happy with them.
yea i had another play today with the 3 servos i have and here's the results
all 3 got hot running at 5.5v 1520us 333Hz
all 3 got hot running 5.5b 1520us 250Hz
all 3 where cool at 70Hz
then i found afew 5408 diodes so put one inline on a servo extension
all 3 run great at 1520us 250Hz 4.8v
only hovering in front yard with piros just as 5.5v control and havent go to 333Hz yet but i now feel safe coz there not getting hot and they fly great on the 450s , im to scared to fly one on the 500 as its got ds515ms and a gy520 so i got a ds520 on the way for that but for the 450's i have restored my faith in the 15158A for now i think :)
better to fly without limits or doubts with your equipments. Inevitable repairs will cost more eventually. Plus you'll enjoy and improve more when you have faith in the equipment.
hi all i still useing the this servo mor than 50 flights of 5min each...it is one of the best great servo with a cheap price....use it on TREX PRO 450 TAIL.
Works fine in the tail of the 450 Pro. Would recommed you buy the servo mounting nut kit as the rubber grommets that came with it are not stiff enough.
Don“t use it. I bought three and two of them stoped working after 5 min on the same heli. The other is on another heli which isn“t flying that“s why it hasn“t broken probably!
good news! good news ! to the people that who has this servo ! I find the replacement gear set! I think it is better than the original gear ! here is the gear from www.link
These connect to the ESC not the radio - but yes, like "p3tras" said, you can control these servos with any properly configured radio - not just Futabas.
I have gyro hk401. If I turn on digital this servo won`t stop working after long flight? I ask because lots of people wrote here that it stop working during flight. Does anybody have hk401 and this servo? How it`s working?
These servos are actually not the problem. they just don't go too well with the hk401 which seems work better with non coreless servos. For the sake of the overall cost of your helli, spend the extra money on a better gyro. like the programmable mini memms. just hooking these too up mine got hot just sitting still it was buzzing away. I have a align gp750 gyro and instantly the servo was silent even set up as a digital sevo
I just noticed the following replacement gears: HKS9257 - Replacement Gear Set, suitable for 9650 & 9257, as they seem very similar to the HK15158A gears I would like to ask if anybody have both servos (9650 & hk15158a) just to check if their gears are exchangeable?
just search for this PRODUCT ID: (HKS9257-Gear) in hobbyking ! it is good for this servo !I had repalce it to my 15158a servo! and I think this gear set is stronger than the origial one!
The servo worked good just the first time(it was accurate and fast) on a clone 450 v2 as the second time the servo's gears were stripped, does somebody know if there are spare parts of those servo gears(if were metal ones would be better)? as it's a pity to throw that with just one flight!
Unfortunately yes, I opened the servo's case to confirm the problem and one of the first and thinner gears right next to the motor pinion was the stripped one.

yes you can and this is one of the better choices.
I use this servo in 500class with GA-250 gyro - the tail is solid.
for cyclics will also be good.
I recommend.
Hi,
I use this on the tail of m 450 pro with the Turnigy GA min memos gyro. I have many flights ( and some crashes) and it holds tight. No slop still and I am very happy. No 3D, but inverted, fast piros, rolls and ripping turns. Best cheap servo IMHO.
What is the spec in terms of xxxxus on this servo. I just got this turnigy tester and want to test this out without killing my new servo.

i got these today and put them in my hk500gt they seem to me to be a little week but i have not flowen it yet i will tomorrow i must say that the servos do work well for bench testing there fast and for now seem to center well but that remains to be seen when flying i'll do a review as soon as i get to fly with them so untill then later dudes
i have not got to fly it yet but they center well and im running them in all four places on the heli and the tail on ds mode and so far it seems to be holding up. i got four 9g servos for a 450 heli that i will start building today and with any luck they will work the same i'll post a review after i fly them.. both here and on the hk 9g servo page.. so i say try they what do you have to lose except a heli and the cost of the servos.no reallygo ahead and try them just keep her low for testing your www.link I DONT ALWAYS CRASH BUT WHEN I DO I PERFER COPTERX'S STAY INVERTED MY FRIENDS..........................................
i made one flight then i went to fly it again and the tail servo striped as soon as i pluged in the battery glad i was still on the ground swaped out to a bluebird servo bms-661dmg-hs far better servo came with everything for a std size servo still have the other 3 on cyclic and my fingers x
So far I used 2 of them as tail servo. The first one stopped working after a hard landing. But it is a very good servo, fast and precise and hold the tail as a good servo should. They do seem to warm a bit at 6V, no problem at 5V.

Purchased this to try in a 450 pro tail with KDS Flymentor to see how it would go. Hovered rock solid, better than similar spec powerHD. Tried some piros and stopped well but then uncontrollable tail wag. Tried to piro the other way same thing. Maybe servo settings (digital/analog/frequency was wrong. Set on analogue). Gears survived the crash well with no slop. So have potential.
Any hints on gyro setting???
ok after my tail servo just stopped working in my hk450pro i needed a cheap replacement and use this one ,its working great for now just like the 20 dollar one :) now to see how long it will keep working :)

Suceava 11 mai 2011 I think that for the price this servo is absolutly ok.I have no complaints. It does exactly what is written. It is a high speed servo on 4.8V end extremely fast on 6V.On 6V it tends to heat up under load,so be careful about that.Excellent for high speed applications but not for high precision because of a little slop in gears.Good price/quality ratio. One of the best servos in this class I had untill now.

Great Servo. I have about 20 flights now on 450 pro (belt conversion, doing inverted, loops, fast hard laps piros etc and matched with $9.99 Mems gyro is as good as the other $250 gyro and servo I have in another. I have a few crappy servos from HK, but this is a winner. Have ordered a couple more just in case and saved lots for the other spares I need whilst I learn 3D.
